About me

I’m a longtime book editor whose first and most consistent client over the years has been Harper & Row (later HarperSanFrancisco, now HarperOne). I’ve worked on hundreds of books for them over nearly 25 years in the topics of spirituality, religious studies, psychology, and women’s issues. For more than a decade I have also consulted with authors to develop the topics of their books, hone their writing skills, and organize their thinking. If you need help with your book idea or proposal, I invite you to schedule a consultation.

In 1997 I received a  PhD from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, in religious studies and feminist theory. My interest in politics and economics was whetted by doctoral seminars in US history at UC Berkeley, just down the hill from the GTU.

I now teach humanities in the graduate programs of Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. The programs are low residency, which means most of the faculty and all of the students live around the country and gather in Prescott a few times a year for weekend conferences.

I read and think a lot about nature spirituality, including indigenous religious traditions, and how humans can coexist more peacefully with the rest of the natural world. Thinking about environmental philosophy means thinking also about how we communicate with humans and others and how we can practice more equitable relations with all our neighbors on the planet.

I live in Boulder, Colorado, next to the fabulous Flatirons, with my partner, Tim, and our dog, Bodhi.
